About Us

The Mercury Lamp Recyclers Association (MLRA) is a non-profit 501(c)3 stewardship organization that facilitates ‎and manages the collection and proper disposal of mercury-containing lamps in Maine and Vermont. Before its ‎incorporation in 2024, members of MLRA previously established a collection program to satisfy state legislation. After many successful years running the program under the National Electrical Manufacturers Association, ‎manufacturers decided to incorporate and create a stand-alone organization to manage the program. Our ‎mission is to promote the safe collection and proper disposal of mercury-containing lamps. Currently, 19 ‎manufacturers support the program. Our members’ continuing financial support demonstrates their ‎commitment to a cleaner environment.

Our goal is:‎

  • To promote and facilitate the recycling of lamps containing mercury.
  • ‎To promote public understanding of the benefits, methods, and process for recycling lamps containing ‎mercury.
  • ‎To conduct and promote research for the improvement of the quality and functional usefulness of ‎mercury based products recycling systems.
  • ‎To provide forums for communication and interactions among professionals on recycling products ‎containing mercury.
  • ‎To engage in other charitable and educational activity as determined by the board of directors.
