Privacy Policy of the Mercury Lamp Recyclers Association (MLRA)

MLRA values your privacy and your right to control your personal data that has been provided to MLRA.

This Privacy Policy applies to our collection and use of personally identifiable information (“personal data”) that we may receive from you, your employer, or other entity with which you are associated.

MLRA reserves the right to amend or modify this Privacy Policy at any time.

Types of Personal Data We May Collect and Process

Personal data includes information relating to natural persons (“individuals”) who can be identified or who are identifiable, directly from the information in question; or who can be indirectly identified from that information in combination with other information.  The types of personal data we may collect from you, or your employer or others include:

Contact Information

  • Your email address (work or personal)
  • Your mailing address (work or personal)
  • Your telephone or fax number (work or personal)
  • The name of your employer
  • Alternative contact information (e.g. an assistant’s name, number, email)
  • Employment-related information —
  • Industry sector in which you are employed (e.g., lighting, utilities, etc.)
  • Your job title and/or job function
  • Educational or professional information
  • IP address of computer used to communicate with us
  • Authentication information
  • Your photograph or a photograph that includes you as part of a group of persons

Online payment information

We do not collect payment online nor do we process information pertaining to credit or debit card accounts used in making online payment for programs (e.g., meetings, seminars, webinars, podcasts and the like) that we sponsor.  We use third-party platforms such as Cvent and PayPal to handle this service.  Please consult the privacy policies of Cvent or PayPal to determine the personal data the third party provider processes in these circumstances.  We do receive confirmation from these platforms that a payment has been made for these programs and contact information for the individual who has registered and paid for the program.

Other payment information

Bank account information provided by you to MLRA in connection with payment for services rendered by MLRA or reimbursement of expenses or payroll processing.

How MLRA Receives Personal Data, How We Use It, and the Business Purposes for Which We Use It

MLRA is a not-for-profit membership trade association based in Washington, D.C. (USA) representing manufacturers of lighting equipment. Our primary services are recycling logistics, government relations and reporting business information relating to the electrical industries. We engage with other stakeholders who are interested in these activities from time-to-time. In each case, contact information, including personal data, relating to MLRA Member personnel and other stakeholders is essential to our operations in order to receive and send information to each other and meet other MLRA operational requirements.

MLRA receives personal data about individuals from you, your employer, or other entities with whom you are associated, in a number of ways, and we use that personal data for the following business purposes:

Member Companies and other firms provide contact information to MLRA about their employees and representatives so they may participate in MLRA association activities and services and/or to receive information from MLRA relevant to the electrical industry and MLRA services. The contact information also informs MLRA who is authorized to act on behalf of the Member Company.

Individuals likewise provide contact information to MLRA so they may participate in MLRA association activities and services and/or to receive information from MLRA relevant to the electrical industry and MLRA services.   Your contact or other employment-related information may be provided by you to MLRA when registering on the MLRA website, downloading information from the MLRA website, by attending a MLRA meeting in person, by providing a business card, by email or written correspondence, verbally, or paying for service provided by MLRA.

These MLRA activities may include participating in face-to face, electronic, or telephonic meetings for — discussing public policy and industry communications, economic reporting services, as well as other services provided by MLRA including surveys, marketing efforts, learning programs, facilitating communications between individuals and their elected representatives, recording in writing participation at meetings (including conference call meetings), and the receipt of publications, reports, and correspondence.

MLRA utilizes social media accounts such as Linked In, Facebook, and Instagram to communicate to the public from time to time about our programs, new publications, and our position on issues of public interest.  The identity of followers of the MLRA social media platforms is viewable to MLRA, including any comments a follower may offer.  MLRA may respond to those comments through the social media platform, but the social media platforms do not provide us access to contact information.

Personal data collected from our website may also be used to improve our services to Member Companies or the public and to improve the experience of our website users.

Personal data, such as data necessary for processing payments or payroll, identifying bank accounts, can be provided by individuals to MLRA.

Personal data, including contact information you provide on meeting sign-up sheets and photographs, may be collected by MLRA in the course of MLRA meetings or other MLRA activities. Photographs may be received directly from you or your employer or taken at MLRA meetings, which may be reproduced on MLRA’s website, in slide presentations, or in MLRA publications that identify you as having participated in a MLRA activity or to personally recognize you for your contribution to MLRA.

Personal data is used to populate MLRA or other group or committee rosters in order to facilitate communications with the group or committee.

Personal data can be provided on lists of names provided by other firms or organizations, which may be used by MLRA for informational and marketing purposes.

Sharing Personal Data with Others

MLRA will not sell your personal data to others.

MLRA may share your personal data with others as part of our trade association activities.  In this section of our Privacy Policy, we explain the circumstances in which we may share your personal data.

For example, MLRA may collaborate with MLRA Members, other trade associations, non-members, business partners providing services to MLRA including consultants, federal and state governments and their agencies on a variety of technical, public policy, or information sharing activities through correspondence (including digital correspondence), telephone calls, webinars and similar types of communications in which your contact information or employment-related information may be revealed in order to facilitate the collaborative activity and future contacts and communications among the collaborators.  MLRA may use your photograph in its publications or other media (both print and online) that are distributed to the public.

MLRA may disclose personal data if we are required to do so by law or if such action is reasonably necessary to comply with legal process, legislation, to respond to any claims, or to protect the rights of MLRA, its Members or the public.  We may reveal personal data to attorneys, private investigator organizations or law enforcement agencies if we believe that you are in risk of harm from another, or that you are harming or interfering with other or violating (intentionally or unintentionally) our Terms or Conditions of Use or otherwise violating legal rights.

Surveys

From time to time, we may ask our website visitors to answer survey questions.  Surveys generally pertain to the website, and MLRA products or services.  Surveys pertaining to the website will not request personal data.

MLRA may survey its Members from time to time about certain subjects relative to MLRA and the lighting manufacturing industry.  MLRA will use this information for business purposes or to report the survey results in aggregated or summary form without personally identifying information or attribution.

Links to Other Sites

The MLRA website contains links to other sites. If you access other sites using the links provided, the operators of those sites may collect information from you which will be used by them in accordance with their own privacy policies. MLRA is not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites. We encourage you to become familiar with the privacy policies of any other sites which you visit, including sites linked from the MLRA website.

Anonymous Information

Anonymous information based on your visits to the MLRA website is also gathered by MLRA, which may be used by MLRA or shared with third parties. This is information which does not personally identify you, but which may be helpful for marketing purposes or for improving the services we offer. For example, MLRA might tell its advertisers how many times a particular advertisement is visited, and for how long, so they can measure whether the advertisement was effective. This information is also used to determine advertising rates. Typically, the information collected, or traffic data, may entail the use of cookies, IP addresses, or other data used to identify a computer.

It is common in the web industry to use “cookies,” and many major sites use them to provide useful features for their visitors. “Cookies” themselves do not identify individual users, although they do identify a user’s computer. Cookies are files stored on your computer that contain information about you and your preferences. For example, a cookie might record which pages within the site you visited, to help MLRA customize the view for you the next time you visit, and cookies can make it easier for you to visit a website in the future.  By allowing the MLRA site to create a cookie on your computer, you are not providing MLRA or any other site access to the rest of your computer.  Cookies created by visiting the MLRA site can only be read by the MLRA site.

Most browsers are initially set to accept “cookies.” If you’d prefer, you can set your browser to refuse “cookies;” however, you may not be able to take full advantage of a MLRA’s website if you do so. Where a service from our website requires authentication, accepting cookies is required.

Retention of Personal Data

Unless indicated otherwise at the time of the collection of your personal data (e.g. within a form completed by you), we erase your personal data if we determine the retention of that personal data is no longer necessary (i) for the purposes for which they were collected or otherwise processed, (ii) to comply with legal obligations (such as retention obligations under tax or commercial laws), or (iii) you request that we delete your personal data.

Your Rights

You can request the correction, revision, or erasure of your personal data or restriction of processing concerning you or to object to processing as well as the right to data portability.  If you seek to correct, amend, or delete personal data, please direct your inquiry to our​ contact us page​.  If requested to remove personal data, we will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
